Eye Can Walk

A day of fun for the whole family!

On Sunday, 7 October, KZN Blind and Deaf Society held its 4km & 8km Eye Can Walk fundraiser at Kings Park Stadium. Through the support of our Ambassadors, Sponsors, Team, Staff and Volunteers, this event was indeed successful yet again.

The day’s event began at 7:00 a.m. with registration, followed by the fun walk which started at 9am.  At registration, participants received a T-shirt, bottled water and blind fold to get them geared up for the journey. All participated in a Zumba Warm up session   to get them feeling fit and ready. At the finish, participants were excited to receive goodie bags, medals, chocolates and more water.

Eye Can Walk offers a unique, cutting-edge and innovative way to raise awareness about the Blind. The organization unites blind, family and friends, corporates and members of the community in KZN to help encourage individuals to understand the challenges that visually impaired individuals face on a daily basis while walking on public roads. Family members are encouraged to share how this experience has impacted them.

“Thank you for an awesome walk , it was highly organised and it puts a lot in to perspective, as you get a small glimpse in to the world of a Blind Person” said Karen Smith, a participant.
In addition to the event, KZN Blind and Deaf Society offers professional services such as social work, independence skill training, job placement, optometry services, audiology and skills development programmes.

The KwaZulu-Natal Blind and Deaf Society records its appreciation to all stakeholders for the goodwill generated during this event.
