Healthy eating made easy, tasty in a demanding lifestyle
Dr North, a mom of two understands the demands of juggling a career with family life while trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Using her expertise in the field of medical nutrition and life-experiences, she has partnered with medical weight loss and maintenance programme, Slender Wonder, to compile two recipe books based on the low GI, low fat lifestyle to provide those struggling with weight management with delicious, non-fuss and healthy recipes.
“The slow, steady release of carbohydrates prevents high levels of insulin in the blood resulting in a constant supply of energy, decreasing the risk of becoming overweight and protecting the body from lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and heart diseases,” says Dr North explaining the basis of both the books’ recipes.
In Eat your way to a healthy weight!, Dr North shares delicious recipes that feature out-of-the-box flavor combinations, as well as healthier versions of classic favourites with flavour-packed dishes such as salsa burgers with hashbrowns, vegetable curry with paneer, a wholesome tabbouleh or a sweet Japanese cucumber salad. Never compensating on flavour, the book also demonstrates how to make a variety of homemade condiments, stocks, marinades and dressings to avoid the pitfalls of hidden sugars in store-bought versions.
Dr North graduated Cum Laude in her BSc in Dietetics, BSc Honors in Dietetics and MSc in Nutrition degrees at the North-West University in Potchefstroom. In addition, she has a Postgraduate Diploma in Hospital Dietetics from the University of Pretoria and a PhD (Nutrition) from the North-West University in which she focused on nutrition and heart disease.
