Top tennis gets into swing

Many of South Africa’s leading junior tennis players converge on KwaZulu-Natal today (Thursday) for the start of the 23rd annual Kearsney Tennis Festival.

Eight top tennis-playing schools will participate in the round robin competition.  Grey College (Bloemfontein), Pretoria Boys High, Rondebosch Boys High (Cape Town) and hosts Kearsney will compete in Pool Nadal; whilst Afrikaanse Hoer Seunskool (Affies, from Pretoria), Paul Roos Gimnasium (Stellenbosch), Selborne College (East London) and Clifton College (Durban) will form Pool Federer.

The format is round robin which will yield a semi-final, final, play-off matches and an eventual winner.  Play gets into swing tomorrow (Friday) through to Sunday on the courts at Kearsney, as well as Highbury and St Mary’s schools.

The festival has become a highlight on the national schools’ tennis calendar, with an incredibly high standard of players attracted, thanks to on-going sponsorships from Seeff Properties, Sportsmans Warehouse, Wilson, Alpine Motors and Matchday performance drinks.

For those wanting to enjoy some inspiring tennis over the weekend, Kearsney’s Coffee Shop will be open with ample parking available.
