Romano Ice Creams: Something cool is happening on Florida Road
Mohammed, who is opening a new store on Durban’s trendy and hip, Florida Road, following the success of a pop store at the Pavilion food court and a kiosk in Musgrave Centre, is excited about what he is introducing to the new customers who will no-doubt become loyal fans of the new store.
Just a visit to the Facebook page will have you salivating and making a plan to find time in your day to pop in to the new branch to indulge your senses and treat yourself.
Whether you choose a cup or cone, or even go for a stick, dipped to exactly what you want, or try out some of the fantastic inventions of Gelato with filled centres ranging from white chocolate or condensed milk, to caramel, Nutella, fruit sauce, the mind boggles when thinking of which to choose.
Truth be told, you’d need to go back a few times to try out everything.
An icy history dating back centuries
Gelato dates dates back to the mid 15 century starting as frozen desserts, in Sicily, ancient Rome and Egypt made from snow and ice brought down from mountaintops and preserved below ground until a Sicilian fisherman Francesco Procopio dei Coltelli in 1686 perfected the first ice cream machine.
Gelato’s mainstream appeal only increased in the 1920s–1930s in the northern Italian city of Varese, where the first Gelato cart was developed.
The international offering of Gelato pops on a stick has never been seen before on these shores and is sure to seduce customers who will be spoiled for choice by all the varieties that are on offer and are dreamed up by this veritable ice-cream magician.
Mohammed insists on manufacturing only the best, on trend authentic Italian gelato with a focus on innovation for his customers. “I offer the best Italian gelato made the Italian way which is made from best premium Italian ingredients in every pop and tub ice cream,” he said explaining that he is striving to make sure that every product he sells has global appeal without comprising on quality. “We combine old methods and new methods of gelato makers to achieve this,”
He has also added a new modern take on gelato with the addition of “bubble wraps” with a choice of gelato flavours to choose from and gelato slices to suit anyone’s taste.
But there’s more…
In addition to the wide range of Gelato which makes up the bulk of Romano Ice Cream’s products the store also makes and sells Froyo Frozen Yogurt range made with real fruit pulp, and Frutto, a sorbet range with exciting refreshing fruit flavours.
There are also Mexica Paletas which is fruit based ice cream like strawberry infused with centred sweet milk and fresh kiwi with real kiwi fruits centred.
And last but by no means least, customers are also able to create their very own bespoke gelato on a stick with a variety of different types of chocolate to choose from including but not limited to: Milk chocolate, white chocolate, dark chocolate, biscotti chocolate, krocco peanut chocolate, coffee crunch chocolate, strawberry chocolate, candy floss chocolate, and a variety of toppings which can also be enjoyed alongside one of the many exotic coffees available from Kit Kat frappe to salted caramel.
The store at 233 on Florida Road, is running a weekend special to coincide with the 23 March opening, so you will be able to try out three favours at once. You pay for two scoops, the third is FREE!
