Bespoke baby gear, designed with the supermom in mind!

Bespoke baby gear, designed with the supermom in mind!

When it comes to baby brands, there are so many great companies out there producing some incredible stuff. On an international level, we are of course envious of some of the adventurous, fun and fabulous products on the market (not all of which we can always get our hands on), so we simply cannot contain ourselves when every now and again we stumble across some equally great brands produced on our very own doorstep…

Manufactured in Cape Town and available to everybody online, Kidworx by Melinda Buckley is a bespoke range of baby goods, beautifully designed to create a healthy balance between home and social life. Offering a handpicked selection of insightful designer products developed for both you and baby, with Kidworx, style is not sacrificed, routine is maintained and baby is happy, making this journey together a beautiful one, and of course making it possible to become that laid back SUPERMOM everybody envies.

It all started when her social butterfly of a sister in law was desperately looking for something gorgeous, practical and mobile so that her little one’s nap time would be nap time no matter where the champagne was being served. “In short I design for moms/ parents who want to be out and about and want to do it in a fuss free and stylish way.”says Melinda

Someone who can tinker away for hours with fabric and colours, and who is constantly on a never ending quest to simplify the madness in life, Melinda is mom to a gorgeous two-year-old ‘Thunda Mungki’ and is expecting her second. She has a dog that has, by her pyjama clad neighbour, been likened to Brad Pitt, and a husband who completely supports her overactive imagination. There is not a day that goes by where she is as equally excited as scared about the decision of going on her own and being the master of her own universe.

“A little over three years ago, my sister in law was expecting her first, was hunting for a mobile carry cot that boasted more than what the industry was offering. Her brief was
simply put, this: she wanted a mobile carry cot that could be taken anywhere, looked gorgeous, was durable, washed well, was easy to transport, but more importantly allowed her the opportunity to keep nap time nap time no matter where the champagne was being served.”

Once the Social Sleeper (as the mobile cot was coined) was spotted by moms who inevitably had to leave the social engagement to get home for nap times, it became apparent that new parents were transitioning into their new role and looking for product that would help keep baby’s routine and allow them a vestige of their former life. It did not take long for Melinda to realise that both parties – parents and baby – could be catered for.

“What essentially started as a moonlighting project – designing, prototyping and testing to develop the ultimate mobile cot – soon developed into an opportunity, one with a decision to leave her full time job. Having already had 15 years of experience in design, manufacture and production in the bag and accessory industry, the decision was a no brainer.  “The actual leap into the entrepreneurial unknown was the scariest thing I have done to date, but the scare is what makes what I do so great!” states Melinda with sheer confidence.

Kidworx is now a sought-after brand offering fluster free moments, allowing new parents to be stylish and confident when saying yes to every occasion.

“Nap time will still be nap time. Nappy changes never more fuss free and comfortable, having everything at hand and knowing it’s all designed to create a solution to how to go about parenting in style and with simplicity.”

“Kidworx has now been operating full time for over a year and we are growing strength to strength. Our production line allows us full control of what we can design and best of all gives us the freedom to offer a fully customisable service, constantly having a conversation with moms and hearing their needs, offering bespoke solutions.”

50 Shades of Pink

When it comes to wine, especially rosé, there are loads of guys who won’t touch it. Maybe it’s because they prefer a beer or a more refined spirit; maybe it’s because it comes in a stemmed glass, who knows?. What we can say though, based on the confessions of our local wine fundi, Jan-Nico Coetzee, is that even the tough guys have a palate for rose, and thanks to the bottled beauties listed below, we now know just why.
