A tranquil getaway
Located on the Battlefields route, among ancient giant Cambrian boulders, on a 550 hectare stretch of beautiful bushveld alongside the picturesque Bivane River, this idyllic resort is known for its hot, healing mineral waters that rise up along fault fissures. Naturally heated to between 36 and 45 degrees Celsius these triple waters contain healing chlorides, sulphates and carbonates that can help treat gastric ailments, digestive disorders, constipation, fibrositis, gout, rheumatism, insomnia, skin disorders such as warts and even the stresses and strains of everyday life.
Discovered in 1888 by General Smuts and his Boer soldiers who made it their centre for recreation during the Boer War in the 1900’s, soldiers used one of the rocks on the far side of the river for target practice and the pock marks are still visible today.
Besides the history and the thermal waters, the resort offers many opportunities for recharging your batteries, from chilling in the heated pools or the large jacuzzi beside the Boulders Bar to energizing activities and recreation. You can enjoy the thrills of the water park complete with a 45 metre super tube, two 20 metre high speed slides and even a sprinkler splash park for littlies under eight.
For cycle and running enthusiasts, there is a 22km Mountain Bike Trail and running trail as well as a BMX track. MTB, BMX bikes and quad bikes are available for hire.
Those who have a competitive streak can challenge family members to a game of paintball or participate in the obstacle course, and for the less challenging, there is hiking, squash, tennis, table tennis, snooker, darts or bowls.
In between all the vigorous activities one can go birding, fishing or simply chill at the beauty spa and wellness centre.
