BB Squares Shongweni

You’d think at 6:30 on a chilly and rainy Saturday morning, everyone would still be catching up on some sleep but in Shongweni, all roads lead to the popular Shongweni Farmer’s Market – where BB Squares made its second and last appearance for the Square-off challenge.

The market was already bustling with its’ die hards and new visitors with Mags Van Der WEsthuizen keeping all entertained as MC. Before the challenges began, the lovely ladies from BB Squares gave onlookers and passersby the different squares made with mouthwatering ingredients- from savoury selections of cheese to sausages and sweet alternatives such as chocolate spread and strawberries.

The first challenge kicked off with Jessica Newcombe-bond and Tubby Lourens who had to compete against each other and impress the judges with their interpretations for a toasted square. The judges tasted the culinary creations, deliberated and Jessica’s squares conquered.

For the second challenge, popular personality Nonjabulo Zwane squared up against Shongweni local Wayne Smith. The challenge, though head to head throughout saw Wayne come out victorious in the end as he won the judges over with his creative skills.

The last challenge of the day was a battle of the Gagasi FM DJ’s, DJ Heazy and Clarissa. Both were confident and brought their best game foot forward. Their challenge was to toast the square with their preferred ingredients.  After the tasting – the verdict was out and resulted in a tie.
