The Forager searches for the ‘Wildest Cocktail’ in the country

Presented by The Botanist Gin.

Last year The Botanist Gin introduced THE FORAGER, a unique pop-up bar concept, which saw a limited number of pop-up evening events taking place throughout the year in unconventional, secret urban spaces in Cape Town and Johannesburg. This year The Botanist Gin brings it back, but with a twist. THE FORAGER is now on the hunt for the “Wildest Cocktail” in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and for the first time, Durban. Three of South Africa’s up-and-coming bartenders, in each city, will compete in a challenge to craft the wildest serves, using The Botanist Gin and their own local, hand-foraged botanicals.

For three weeks, each cocktail will be available at the venues for members of the public to experience for themselves. “This year we are looking for “Wildest Cocktail” in South Africa. We will be working with some of the country’s most promising bartenders to create something special. The best part about this year is that everyone can be involved. The public can visit any of our partnering venues, enjoy the cocktails for themselves and tell us exactly which one they think should win. We are really looking forward to awarding the “Wildest Cocktail in South Africa,” said Tamika Sewnarain, Brand Manager for The Botanist Gin, South Africa. Before each event, the nine participating bartenders will attend a bespoke foraging experiences, led by local foraging experts, including Roushanna Gray. They will guide them on a local foraging tour to choose fynbos and other indigenous ingredients from their region, with which they will create their own unique serves of The Botanist Gin.

Industry experts and invited guests will then take part in an Urban Forage, where they will visit each competitor’s bar, taste the cocktails and then vote for the one they feel is the most inspired. In mid- October, the regional winners will compete for the title of the “Wildest Cocktail” in South Africa. The bartender with the most votes and highest score at the end of THE FORAGER series will win the ultimate Botanist experience. This will include a bespoke foraging master class with Roushanna Gray, two days with industry expert and previous winner of THE FORAGER, Gareth Wainwright, and a personalised forager’s bartending kit bag.

Bespoke baby gear, designed with the supermom in mind!

When it comes to baby brands, there are so many great companies out there producing some incredible stuff. On an international level, we are of course envious of some of the adventurous, fun and fabulous products on the market (not all of which we can always get our hands on), so we simply cannot contain ourselves when every now and again we stumble across some equally great brands produced on our very own doorstep…

50 Shades of Pink

When it comes to wine, especially rosé, there are loads of guys who won’t touch it. Maybe it’s because they prefer a beer or a more refined spirit; maybe it’s because it comes in a stemmed glass, who knows?. What we can say though, based on the confessions of our local wine fundi, Jan-Nico Coetzee, is that even the tough guys have a palate for rose, and thanks to the bottled beauties listed below, we now know just why.
