VC Public Law Lecture and School Quiz

Varsirty College in Westville recently hosted its annual Public Law Lecture that saw LLB students and IIE B.Com Law students sitting in and enjoying a one on one law lecture with Achmat Jappie, Judge President of the KwaZulu Natal division of the High Court.

He spoke about the relationship between the judiciary and the executive’s branches of government and whether the judiciary should intervene in executive power when warranted.

Over the past four weeks, schools from all over Durban have been competing to win an amazing prize sponsored by Varsity College. Students were in teams of four and had the task of trying to answer as many questions correctly as possible. There were eight questions in each category which included politics, business, sport, current affairs and entertainment. A diverse set of questions were asked to students including current and relevant topics pertinent to what’s going on around us. Hillcrest High walked away as the winners of R20 000 cash for their school, as well as R150 000 bursary to one promising student to study at Varsity College, and each student from the winning team received R2000 and a study guide hamper.
