Our list of vibrant must-haves for September.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

One of the most delicious ways to stay hydrated year-round is with Vita Coco 100 per cent Natural Coconut Water. Based on just one single ingredient – fresh, natural coconut water from young, green coconuts – it’s bursting with naturally occurring potassium and essential electrolytes. Staying hydrated with coconut water helps with skin care, to lower blood pressure and decrease colds and flu. Another fab reason… it helps keep those winter kilos at bay. Thanks to its zero fat content, coconut water won’t wreck your diet and will also eliminate unnecessary cravings by making you feel fuller after drinking it. Lastly, because coconut water is an isotonic drink, it provides a great pick-me-up before, during or after exercise – spelling success for your gym workout. You’ll find Vita Coco at Woolworths, Pick n Pay and Spar from R24.95 for the 330ml and R54.95 for the 1 litre. Sweet dreams are made of this

Hello sundown! It’s time to try the “Ap” that lets you cross over from work to play in an instant. We’re talking Aperol Spritz, Italy’s number one cocktail that’s taken the world by storm. What makes this tangy orange and bittersweet (actually, make that sweet-bitter) drink so special, is a unique and indefinable taste that’s unbelievably refreshing. Add to that its low alcohol by volume content (just 11%) and that it’s a brilliant base for so many cocktails, suited to so many occasions.  That’s especially where antipasti (aka hors d’oeuvres) are involved, like bruschetta with cured meat, salami, olives, roasted nuts and other snacks. And, it’s also superb with brunch. And nothing could be simpler to conjure up.  You need three parts Prosecco (or your favourite dry bubbly), two parts Aperol and one part soda.  Pour into an ice-filled glass and garnish with a slice of orange. That’s all it takes to flip the switch from then to now. You’ll find Aperol at all major retailers for around R199 a bottle. Details: www.aperol.com.

Caviar – for the Face

Ladies, this stuff is flying off the shelves and you want to know why? Dragons Blood Face Caviar is a miracle cream of note! We’ve tried it ourselves and it really is impressive as an innovative anti-aging formula that helps to volumise and define facial contours. Packed with dragon’s blood sourced from the red sap of the ‘sangre de drago’ tree, this awesome new beauty product contains anti-inflammatory properties to calm stressed skin. It works by forming a unique second skin-like film around the face which effectively protects, reduces redness and firms for a smoother, plumper, more youthful looking complexion. Simply put, it’s a powerhouse partner to combat sagging, loss of hydration and firmness of skin, and you can get your hands on it for around R429.90. Details: Available from Beauty Factory in Springfield Value Centre or at Edgars at the Pavilion.

More than just a beanbag

In 2007 FatSak ushered the rebirth of the beanbag into South Africa. Produced in Cape Town according to an environmentally-friendly manufacturing process and fair working conditions for its employees, it has rapidly become a modern home must-have. In fact, we’d go as far as saying that its high quality materials, inimitable style and incomparable comfort have quickly catapulted FatSak into something of a cult object. Robust and durable on the outside, at a glance you’d be forgiven for thinking that FatSak is an oversized beanbag. The reality? It’s not. In fact, not a single bean goes into its cleverly crafted make up. Once you’ve fallen for the comfort factor, you’ll go nuts for FatSak’s practical design. Wrapped in fabrics to suit your needs – dishy denims for a child’s room, sumptuous suede for your living room, or slick and smooth for your office – the FatSak outer shell is removable and (mostly) machine washable.. Details: Price from R2900 (small) to R4700 (large) you can browse www.fatsak.co.za or order yours from Phrog Designs in Kloof on 031 764 5785.

50 Shades of Pink

When it comes to wine, especially rosé, there are loads of guys who won’t touch it. Maybe it’s because they prefer a beer or a more refined spirit; maybe it’s because it comes in a stemmed glass, who knows?. What we can say though, based on the confessions of our local wine fundi, Jan-Nico Coetzee, is that even the tough guys have a palate for rose, and thanks to the bottled beauties listed below, we now know just why.
