A trio for the girls

A trio for the girls

Pretty pink bubbles, chick lit reads. We’re in for a good week!

Lesley Pearse always writes big, heart-tugging, passionate blockbusters … and The Woman in the Wood certainly doesn’t disappoint. It’s the story of 15-year-old twins Maisy and Duncan, who’ve always had each other. They’ve had to, ever since the night their father committed their mother to an asylum and sent the pair to live with their cold and rather awful grandmother’s home in the New Forest countryside. When Duncan disappears in the woods, and the bodies of other young men are found in the area, the police give up hope of finding Duncan, and gran shows little interest. So it’s up to Maisy to discover the truth. It’s just typical Lesley Pearse … hugely enjoyable. Penguin.

Another tale of upheaval and struggle is Danielle Steel’s The Duchess, the story of Angelique Latham who grows up in a life of privilege, the apple of her father – the Duke of Westerfield’s – eye. He schools her in managing the grand estate, but when he unexpectedly dies, her half-brother turns her out and she has to make her a new start. From England to Paris and New York, Angelique keeps her identity a secret and builds a highly successful, albeit unimaginable, business. It’s a tale of the struggles of women in a man-ruled society, of a girl who won’t give up and who succeeds against all odds. PanMacmillan

For something light and frothy, we’re loving the new Steenberg Ruby Rosé … a rose petal pink bubbly that’s dry, light, and flirty and a pure delight. Think juicy raspberries, wild strawberries and hints of spice, it’s an inexpensive treat … we plan on keeping half a dozen bottles in the fridge so we’re never short of a bottle to pop for every special occasion (a birthday, an engagement, it’s Friday!) Around R86 from your local bottlestore.
