Enter now for the 2017 Bestmed Cycle4Cansa road and mountain bike races at Sun City
Once again, the event aims to raise funds and awareness for CANSA in the North West and Limpopo Provinces Since its inception, the Bestmed Cycle4Cansa Classic at Sun City has raised over R3.4-million for CANSA’s education and patient care and support programmes in the region. This year’s Bestmed Cycle4Cansa features the #WeCAN – Riding for Survivors campaign, whereby entry fees are matched as a donation to CANSA. Those who would like to be a part of this campaign are required to fill in the form on the website.
The Bestmed Cycle4Cansa Classic, on 20 August, is an official seeding event for the Cape Town Cycle Tour and attracts thousands of entries every year. This race distinguishes itself from other events with its emphasis on road safety, medical, good value for money and one of the flattest and most scenic routes through the North West Province. The event first drew 1 800 riders in 1998, with a record number of 12 000 cyclists participating in the past three years. For the road race, there are two distances to choose from, a challenging 103km route and a 70km route. The ever popular kiddies’ race includes two categories; one for under five year olds and a second for 10 and under.
The mountain bike challenge, now in its 11th year, has grown to become one of the “must-enter” events on South Africa’s mountain biking calendar. The number of entries is expected to grow this year as it has consistently done since the event’s inception. There are two categories for this year’s event on 19 August; a 50km and 25km. The race consists of a 25km circuit-based route which riders complete either once or twice. The course offers an amazing experience, both from a route and scenic point of view. Participants traverse large sections of the resort’s grounds, including a palm plantation and the renowned Gary Player Country Club golf course and The Lost City Golf Course. They also go through the neighbouring Letsatsing Game Reserve.
Sun City offers convenient and safe parking as well as a variety of family entertainment options once the racing is done, including free entry into the Valley of Waves. Sun City is home to over 30 restaurants with menus and options to suit all tastes. Families are encouraged to make a day – or even a weekend – of it! Special accommodation packages are available.
For more information, go to www.cansalostcity.co.za. Late entries are accepted at the registration venues but not on the days of the races.
