Two glorious wines to enjoy this month
The family-owned Kleine Zalze winery, just outside Stellenbosch, produces top-notch wines, and their two latest releases are just extraordinarily lovely. The 2016 Vineyard Selection Chardonnay is full of flavour … think lush layers of pear and citrus, while the Cellar Selection Cinsault 2016 is described by cellar master Alastair Rimmer as ‘an elegant wine with an exceptional depth of flavour’. It smells of a bouquet of violets, dried lavender and hints of red fruits, and tastes of red berry fruit. Too, too gorgeous. The Cinsault is R67 a bottle, the Chardonnay R93.
We love the fact that this season, Poetry has turned to the lifestyle of a traveller – who curiously collects keepsakes from around the world – for inspiration with their gorgeous selection of homeware. Think handmade candles from the Overberg alongside hand-crafted throws from India, Portuguese pottery, frames inlaid with mother-of-pearl and bone, and a range of beautiful Portuguese crockery in duck egg and navy with beautiful detail and glossy hand painted finishing. From a small lace platter for R220 that’s perfect for serving salads or delectable tapas, to the XL serving bowl for R499 that you could serve up a storm in, you can easily add charm to your dining room and kitchen. Parody cookbooks guaranteed to make you chuckle
Want to cook a sensual meal divine enough to seduce your own Christian Grey? Parody cookbooks are alive and well and, unlike their tongue-in-cheek delivery, might just hold the perfect understated recipe for any occasion – if you know where to look. In the afterglow of the unprecedented success of the sultry 50 Shades of Grey, some cookbook authors realized that there’s nothing sexier than cooking. Whether you chose to prepare Mustard-Spanked Chicken (50 Shades of Chicken R286) or go for your friend with (health) benefits, kale (50 Shades of Kale R347), these books will keep you hot — in the kitchen. Available online or at Exclusive Books.
Get cosy ‘n comfy
Blue is a big trend this season, which is why we think you should warm up with the rich blue tones of a soft embossed throw like this one that we found at Volpes. It’ll be a welcome layer of affordable luxury you can throw over a duvet cover or use as a living room accessory to compliment any wooden flooring or furniture, although we like it purely for the comfort factor. Available in Natural, Navy and Charcoal for R349. For a store near you or to shop online visit www.volpes.co.za
As much as we’d all love to jet off to another continent for a few weeks of holiday, most of us don’t always have the time or, let’s be real, the budget, for any major getaways during the year. Weekends on the other hand, we certainly can do. Even the chronic over packers among us (and there are a few of us here at Get It) admit that nothing feels sillier than schlepping your oversized two-wheeled long-distance companion along on a 48-hour trip, which is why we feel the need to introduce these large weekender bags from Baby Life to every female traveller who needs an unsung workhorse to add to their current luggage collection. It’s not too big and not too small, sturdy enough that you won’t need to baby it, and stylish enough that you’ll feel confident hauling it to beach bungalows, mountain cabins, your sister’s Cape Town flat, other city conferences or wherever else your weekend travels take you. Made to order, these stylish and practical weekend travel bags are available for around R1595. Price is subject to change. Visit www.babylife.co.za
Girls, let’s face it, Elizabeth Arden has been around for yonks, and renowned for creating incredible fragrances, which is why the latest Always Red Femme, does not disappoint. It is absolutely divine! Suited, in our opinion, to the colder seasons, it is a decadent, fruity-floral fragrance with top notes of black currant, pear and lemon, followed by peach blossom, jasmine and woody base notes like cedar wood, patchouli and vanilla. Sensual and sophisticated, wrapped in a bottle just as gorgeous, it’s definitely a scent you would want to wear on a night out. R640 from Clicks.
