Let the good times roll!

Let the good times roll!

Nothing beats a local hangout with tasty wood-fired pizza and core values like fun, passion and a focus on the family. Perhaps this is why Hubcaps Woodfired Pizza in Morningside is always bustling as locals flock to this retro venue for their slice of delicious pizza.

Walking into the Hubcaps ‘workshop’ is like stepping back in time. It’s a unique, classic experience developed around automobiles from a classic era gone by – nostalgic ambiance, inspired by icons of the 60s, as the venue boasts features reminiscent of the legendary roadsters like Shelby, Thunderbird and Camaro.

And it’s all because two men love cars, as much as they love quality pizzas. Owners Faizul Ally and Izhaar Vally opened the branch in 2012 to bring good fast food to those with hankering quality pizza, pasta, burgers and shakes.

The place embodies things from the past which have not been forgotten. The layout, wallpaper and décor offer a reflection of a game-changing decade. A time when fashion, music and even the very fabric of society underwent something of a revolution and the world of motoring wasn’t immune either. Some of the most evocative and well-known cars were produced during the 1960s, a handful of which are showcased as toy collectibles housed in the diner’s glass counter display cabinets.

Even the menu has been creatively thought out, with great attention to detail. Headed the Owner’s Manual it boasts everything from Classic pizzas like the Chevy Nova with mozzarella, cheddar cheese, feta cheese, herbs and coriander, to the fastest selling Vintage Thunderbird with chicken tikka, caramelized onions, feta, pepperdews and coriander leaves, or a favourite from the Muscle range called the Shelby – a mighty collaboration of steak, salami, chips, Spanish onions, mustard and jalapenos. Every pizza is named after a classic car, and crusts are made using premium extra virgin olive oil. Strictly no preservatives.

There are a variety of hearty pastas, subs and salsas (which are served on delicious cocktail rolls), or you can taste-drive their famous Roadster Range featuring the AC Cobra – a chunky chicken stir-fry sautéed with mixed peppers, Spanish onions, blended with a secret sauces, jalapenos, lemon wedges, rocket leaves and served on a light garlic flavoured focaccia crust with a Mexican dip, and a heap of chips. On the Bun Station you can find a range of mouth-watering burgers, each of which is named after a car part like the Wheel Bearing featuring a double beef patty, lettuce, jalapenos, double cheddar cheese, sliced gherkins, red onion rings and sliced tomato. To add to any pizza you can select from the Pimp your Ride menu which has loads of options and for sides you can choose from a range of Spare Parts available. There are no leftovers when it comes to a Hubcaps pizza!

Hubcaps is renowned for its dreamy, creamy, absolutely yummy Super Shakes made with real ice cream and served in ‘oil bottles’. Flavours include blueberry cheesecake, vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, Bar One, peppermint crisp, bubble-gum and caramel fudge.

The good old days are back! Created by legends for legends, Hubcaps will have you revving for more. Are you ready for the classic ride of your life?

Open weekdays from 10am to 10pm. They close at midnight on weekends.

Bespoke baby gear, designed with the supermom in mind!

When it comes to baby brands, there are so many great companies out there producing some incredible stuff. On an international level, we are of course envious of some of the adventurous, fun and fabulous products on the market (not all of which we can always get our hands on), so we simply cannot contain ourselves when every now and again we stumble across some equally great brands produced on our very own doorstep…

50 Shades of Pink

When it comes to wine, especially rosé, there are loads of guys who won’t touch it. Maybe it’s because they prefer a beer or a more refined spirit; maybe it’s because it comes in a stemmed glass, who knows?. What we can say though, based on the confessions of our local wine fundi, Jan-Nico Coetzee, is that even the tough guys have a palate for rose, and thanks to the bottled beauties listed below, we now know just why.
